                                                                                                         History of NSTM

1976-1996
Under the direction and inspiration of Pastor Carlton Helgerson of The Church of the Open Bible in Burlington, Massachusetts, Burlington Bible Institute was formed in the fall of 1976.  This school was designed to be a one-year undergraduate program that wouls train men and women in the fundamentals of Bible, theology, and ministry related subjects.  Its purpose was to equip believers to be faithful and discerning witnesses in the home, the career, and the local church.  In the fall of 1996 the school – desiring to grow – moved to Dracut, Massachusetts, and was incorporated as Northeastern Bible Institute of Massachusetts, Inc.

1996-2008
The leadership of this institution continued to provide the New England area with a Bible college that met the needs of the local church, whether that of the high school student looking for a place to learn more about God and his next step in life or that of the lay person in the church who desired to know more about God and His plans. In 2001, the board of directors noticed that many full-time students were truly committed to studying God’s Word and desired to serve the Lord in various ministries, including both pastoral and missions work. As a result, the board adopted a name that better envisioned the goals of the institute; thus, the name Northeastern School of Theology and Missions was adopted.

2008-Present
In the summer of 2008, NSTM relocated to Merrimack Valley Baptist Church, a ministry that has been affiliated with NSTM since the 1990s. Under their leadership, the school reorganized its structure while continuing to provide quality education. Dean Paul Mangum, the foremost member of the instiution's faculty since the 1970s continues to serve as the academic dean and primary professor of the institute. We praise God for what He has already done and look forward to what He has in store for the ministry in the coming years.
